The University of Connecticut’s primary functions are education and research, not healthcare. However, because the University does have some offices, departments, and units that engage in HIPAA-covered work and function as HIPAA-Covered Components, the University of Connecticut is designated as a Hybrid Entity. This means that some of our units as a whole, and select work conducted by some our faculty, staff and student are covered by HIPAA.

HIPAA Privacy and Security training modules are available for employees, students, and business associates of the University’s HIPAA-Covered Components.  Employees complete HIPAA training in Saba (Learning @ Work). Students can complete HIPAA training in HuskyCT.
